Grief

I loved your eyes,
I loved your smile,
They kept me breathing,
At least for a while.
But time pulled you where I couldn’t go,
A path you needed,
Though it hurt me so.
You carried a weight I couldn’t mend,
A heart divided,
A love I’d defend.
Still, my spark dimmed
When you walked away,
Grief found me quietly,
Day by day.
My overthinking was never wrong,
Yet I held on,
Believing strong.
Now I grieve not you alone,
But the dream,
the laughter, the light,
The in-between.
I can’t blame the storm for choosing the sky,
but I still ache for a reason why.
