The Wall

I have a secret friend.
He's always silent and never talks to anyone, not even me.
He just listens and lets me talk.
He's the wall.
I'm so grateful to have a friend in my life for once.
Every night we meet for a one-sided conversation. Me talking, him listening faithfully and uninterrupting.
He has seen my smiles.
He has seen my pain.
He has seen the rays of the sun.
He has seen the rain.
He has seen my happiness.
He has seen my fears.
He has seen my world break.
He has seen my tears.
He has seen my sorrow.
He has seen the knife.
He has seen my trembling hands.
And he has seen
The way I was about to
end my life.
But I looked at him one last time.
He didn't say anything. Just stared back at me.
I suddenly thought of all the pleasant moments I had shared with him through the years. Both of us had shared memories together.
I felt like I was feeling all human emotions at once.
I put the knife away. We hugged. He didn't hug me back but I felt he wanted to desperately. I let my tears flow one last time before wiping them away. And him, well, he just stared at me like I was the most precious thing in his world. After all, it was only me who understood him so deeply. We understood each other. It was honestly heartfelt.
I'm sorry to leave you, but I must go, I say as I switch off the lights and turn to leave, there's always tomorrow, I'll return soon enough.
