Under the Ancient Moon

The moon has watched through silent skies,
As empires rose and met their demise.
It gleamed above the Pharaoh’s throne,
Whispered secrets never known.
It saw the Spartans fearless fight,
And pilgrims hope on starry nights.
Through battles fierce and treaties signed,
It witnessed how the world aligned.
It traced the steps of wandering kinds,
Heard the chorus that the minstrel sings.
From dusty scrolls to burning blames,
It watched the birth of countless names.
The moon shone down on Galileo’s gaze,
From only then Picasso’s brush could braze
The same moon’s glow on canvas bright,
Turning silver beams to colors of light.
It hung above the silent trenches,
Where soldiers faced their final sentences.
A constant light in darkest times,
A witness to both crimes and cries.
Martin Luther King-
From only then the dream would be
For humanity to realize the one truth we see,
That justice must rise like the morning tide,
And peace must walk with a steady stride.
From ancient myths to satellites,
From cancel glow to neon lights,
It watched us dream, it watched us fall,
Yet softly glowed above it all.
Still through the ages, calm it beams,
Guarding humanity’s fractured dreams
For only humanity to realize the one truth we see,
That only one Moon shines free.
