I
This city is empty and full of pain,
Now that you’ve left, I live beneath a shroud.
Still waiting, just to meet you again.
All that I see here every day is rain
Gloom thick as smoke, pouring from every cloud.
This city is empty and full of pain.
I wish you hadn’t taken that other train;
Now I keep drifting through every crowd,
Still waiting, just to meet you again.
I feel like I’ve been locked in a chain,
Staring at blank walls, head always bowed.
This city is empty and full of pain.
A monument, I stand in a lonely lane,
As strangers pass, while I remain proud
Still waiting, just to meet you again.
I tried to love your portrait, but all in vain;
You left, and now my canvas is allowed
To drown. This city is full of pain
Still waiting, just to meet you again.
II.
Look into my eyes, oh dear, love is my tongue.
I’m not one who lies or plays it wrong.
Don’t think of me like those whose songs have been sung.
I don’t carry wounds where bitterness is hung,
No baggage here, just feelings pure and strong.
Look into my eyes, oh dear, love is my tongue.
I try where true hearts still belong,
But I don’t linger just to string along.
Don’t think me like those whose songs have been sung.
Like an old casket, by time left unsprung,
Yet wrapped in hope that’s carried all along
Look into my eyes, oh dear; love is my tongue.
Come close and see I’m not the one who’s wrong;
Sit with me where open hearts belong.
Don’t think me like those whose songs have been sung.
Come now, before the world moves us along;
With me, find a view both wide and strong.
Look into my eyes oh dear, love is my tongue.
Don’t think me like those whose songs have been sung.
